Excited to participate in Vivian Kirkfield’s “50 Precious Words” writing challenge, I looked out my window for inspiration. I thought of all the windows people are looking out of right now — both familiar to them, and strange — and all that may be in the viewers’ hearts.

I had to choose just one imaginary window, so here is what I wrote and drew:

School break.

Meridith is going to Mexico.

Vikram to Vermont.

But I’m going NOWHERE.

Mama opens the blinds. “Beautiful day! Look, that cloud is a boat!”

I don’t want to, but I look.

“Ok… I see a dragon.”

Wait… it IS a dragon!

Summer in my city might be AMAZING!

It was hard to choose just one of so many possible windows — but after all, the 50-words challenge is about thinking big while working small!

And perhaps I will visit some more imaginary windows soon!
