Leaf the Dragon

As soon as I saw this gourd at the store, I knew it wanted to come alive as something! 🤩 And since I’m the one who found it, that something had to be a dragon! 🐲

The very next day was the “gourd“ prompt for SCBWI’s Artober. So I dreamed my gourd into a dragon drawing. 💭✍️💕

And then the real funny green thing was just yearning to match its picture!

I had no idea I would need to use carpentry tools to make it happen – turns out gourds are much harder than pumpkins – but it was delightful, and my kids loved watching it come to life!

Meet Leaf!

And we can’t forget Leaf’s siblings and niblings! 🎃🎃🎃 (made by my 4-year-old, husband, & 9-year-old!)
