I’ve been having a truly wonderful time this summer exploring both my Midwestern roots and my quirky, ducky, heart-filled picture book, Odd-Duck Dreams. Here’s the cover design I just finished drawing for my story:

In this picture book, Devin adores ducks with a twofold passion: one, because they’re just amazing of course — and two, because they’re a LOT easier for her to understand than people are.
As I wandered through the rivers and lakes of my Northwoods refuges in Wisconsin and Michigan, I remembered my own childhood feelings of wilderness wonder and social bewilderment. I felt Devin in my heart and looking through my eyes, and I gave her all the birds and barns that she could ever want!
Wondrous Waterfowl: herons, loons, ducks, and swans in Northern Michigan’s Chain of Lakes —>

Barns and Buildings: steadfast, lovingly-tended rural structures — and some ramshackle riddles, too! (My sister and I have always loved the hearts house!) —>

Here you go, Devin — and her one-day-soon readers! For you: a wondrous water bird and a delightfully rickety barn!
