Commissioned Watercolor Paintings

I was very happy to be asked by an old friend if I could make a watercolor painting of Athena for his daughter. Soon after, when I showed my work to my writing group, one of my critique partners asked me to paint a Greek goddess for her daughter, too — this time, Artemis!

Me, holding the Artemis painting right after I finished it.

Here are the finished paintings:

It was really wonderful to explore Greek mythology and imagine how to portray these goddesses for children. I learned so much about art from this as well! I wanted the paintings to be the best they could be, so I made digital drafts first:

Then, once the drafts were approved, I printed the line work and transferred it to my 12×16 Arches watercolor block (the transfer paper is fun to look at afterwards!).

I inked each line with archival ink pens and drew the white areas with drawing gum, and I was ready to paint!

I love painting outside. One of the benefits of living in Southern California is the many good patio painting days!

I have enjoyed this so much. I’d love to work on more paintings for others, too — contact me to discuss pricing and ideas if you’re interested in some original art!
